Mga Sulat ng Puso: Aking Sinta Jewellery’s Custom Baybayin Brand Font

The Pulse of a Heritage: A Custom Baybayin Font for Aking Sinta

Design is rarely just about the intersection of lines. More often, it is about the pulse behind them. When we look at the origin of Aking Sinta, we find a story that crosses oceans. It began as a term of endearment from an English husband to his Filipina wife, a simple phrase that carried the weight of a new home in Manchester (UK) while keeping the tropical warmth alive.

In creating a custom font for this jewelry brand, the goal was to capture that specific warmth. I found that beautiful rhythm in the most vital of symbols: the heart, or Puso.

Rooted in “Puso”

The anatomy of a heart is complex, full of curves that suggest both strength and vulnerability. By studying the profile, lines, and curvature of the human heart, I extracted the organic shapes that now form the skeleton of this custom Baybayin font. Each character is a reflection of this biological map. The strokes do not just sit on a page; they follow the natural flow of an artery, the soft bend of a ventricle, and the unwavering steady beat of a life lived with purpose.

The Flame of Passion

To complement the structure of the heart, I looked toward the element of fire. Zoey’s journey as a founder is defined by an unmistakable alab ng puso (blaze of the heart). Her passion for Filipino craftsmanship and her mission to share our culture with the UK acts as the apoy or fire that breathes life into the jewelry.

You can see this in the terminal strokes of the font. The lines taper and flick like a dancing flame, adding a sense of movement and energy to the ancient script. It transforms Baybayin from a static historical artefact into a living, breathing expression of modern identity.

A Love Letter to Culture

I named this typeface Mga Sulat ng Puso (Writings from the Heart). It is more than a branding tool for Aking Sinta. It is a visual bridge between the Philippines and the world. Every piece of jewelry adorned with these characters carries a double meaning. It carries the literal word in Baybayin, but it also carries the very shape of the heart that conceived it. For the wearer, it is a reminder that culture is not something we leave behind. It is something we wear close to our heart, a fire that keeps us warm and a pulse that keeps us moving forward.

“Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future.” – Robert L. Peters (Canadian Graphic Designer)
