Collection: KABIBI | seashell
Kabibi, Tagalog for seashell, is inspired by the natural treasures found along our shores. Our archipelago of 7,641 islands (NAMRIA, 2016), where the ebb and flow of tides reveal even more of our nation's shores, has blessed us with an abundance of shells that have long been part of Filipino craft and culture.
This collection features mother of pearl pieces, including designs inspired by our national flower, the sampaguita. Each piece reflects the refined craftsmanship that has long flourished throughout our culture, transforming natural elements into elegant creations that bridge tradition and contemporary design.
Among the pieces are those crafted from cowrie shells, the same kind used in the traditional Filipino game of sungka. These shells bring back memories of rainy afternoons at the bottom of our wooden staircase—sitting on the polished concrete platform with my sister and cousins perched on the steps above, moving shells across the game board in familiar patterns. Now transformed alongside mother of pearl and other shells, each design carries forward not just the beauty of Philippine craftsmanship, but the warmth of cherished memories and enduring traditions.
